The children at Ilsham Church of England Academy are celebrating once again, following a letter MP, Nick Gibb, congratulating them on their superb achievement in the 2017 phonics screening check.
For the fourth year in a row the children at Ilsham have excelled in the annual phonics screening check and this year 100% achieved the pass mark, which places them in the top 3% of primary schools across the country.
In his letter, Nick Gibb says: “We want to ensure that every child develops a firm grasp of phonics, which is why I was delighted to see your results. With 100 percent of pupils at Ilsham Church of England Academy reaching or exceeding the pass mark in the check, your school is in the top 3 percent of all primary schools in the country… Thank you for your work in this vital area of a child’s early education and congratulations again to you and your staff for all you have achieved.”
Ilsham Church of England Academy, a member of the Learning Academy Partnership, is a Read Write Inc. Model School thanks to their excellent literacy teaching. They have transformed their reading and writing by implementing the Read Write Inc. phonics programme across their academy.
Jacqi Stephens, Head of Academy at Ilsham, says: “We are absolutely thrilled that the children have received 100% pass mark. This is a testament to all of the hard work and dedication, from both our children and staff, and they should be proud of their outstanding results.”
